The terminal area and facilities
The Felison Terminal is a striking landmark at the most westerly point of IJmuiden, on the seaward side of the locks, and at the entrance of the Amsterdam North Sea Canal, gateway to the Netherlands.
The terminal has open water berths, which makes it an ideal place for cruise ships and ferries.
With a length of about 700 feet and a depth of 28 feet, the cruise quay is very suitable for the larger mid size cruise ships.
The prominent area at the Northern side of the Felison Terminal, named the Sluisplein, meets modern requirements for loading and unloading of both luggage and provisions. Transport in all forms can be accommodated easily on this outermost point of IJmuiden.
Passengers arriving by bus can check in conveniently at the reception in the main entrance.

Buses are available on site to take passengers to Amsterdam and other tourist locations. Amsterdam and Schiphol International Airport are just half an hour away by road. A fast hydrofoil service is also available to make the journey to the centre of Amsterdam just a bit special. When a cruise ship docks at the Felison Terminal, there is no need to pass through the locks and make the journey to Amsterdam via the North Sea Canal. This saves six hours and is a huge benefit to cruise ships on a tight schedule. Passengers appreciate the short journey time to Amsterdam. Contrast this with the two hours bus ride for ships which dock at Rotterdam.
The architecture
The architect designed Felison Terminal building resembles a ship.
As well as terminal facilities, the bow part of the ship contains eight stories of offices. The porthole-like windows emphasize the maritime character of this striking building. The stern part is the convenient, sheltered and spacious passenger lounge.
At the Northern side of the Felison Terminal building is Quay No.1, a dedicated cruise quay. The architect has designed this cruise quay with convenient features including a long glass wall 8 feet 2 inches in height with guarded gates to ensure the safety and security of the passengers and their property.
On the cruise-quay is the Glass Lounge which, with its wave-like roof, complements the design of the Felison Terminal building. The Glass Lounge is connected by a footbridge to a dedicated Cruise Lounge inside the main terminal building. This lounge was designed to reflect the style and opulence of the great ocean liners of the past. Natural materials like teak, leather and metal combine in the Art Deco style to create a comfortable, friendly and welcoming atmosphere which will transport visitors back to the days of the Titanic and The Queen Mary. The Cruise Lounge gives direct access to the main passenger lounge and to the passenger buses.
The cruise quay and the terminal building have been designed in such a way that passengers and cruise operators are offered the highest levels of comfort and service.
Together with the cruise quay, our architect has also designed a seafront for pedestrians, which gives the area a 'promenade' look, and the view is fantastic.
Security and ISPS
From the 1st of July 2004, the guidelines of the ISPS code (International Ship Port Facility Security) came into force. These regulations oblige ships and port facilities to take specific security measures. In these troubled times, convenience is not the only consideration when choosing a cruise terminal. Security for the ship and passengers is of paramount importance. The Felison Terminal has been audited by the official audit team of the local authorities and was certified under the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). We take security very seriously, and the Felison Terminal cruise quay (Quay No. 1. ) is surrounded by an 8ft high glass security wall which prevents unauthorised access without spoiling the view (which is spectacular). The Ferry Quays No. 2. and No. 3. are enclosed by secure boundary fences. To further enhance the safety of the terminal and it’s premises, a CCTV system has been installed. This closed circuit television system allows us to monitor the quays, the gates and the inside of the Felison Terminal 24 hours a day.

The Felison Terminal is owned and operated by KVSA (Royal United Ship Agencies). KVSA, founded in 1876, is one of The Netherlands' leading service providers to the maritime industry. The word “Royal” was added to the company name in recognition of the service provided to customers for more than 125 years.
In order to save precious time and money for cruise ships and cruise ferries, KVSA decided to construct the high-tech, modern and distinctive Felison Terminal in the port of IJmuiden.
